Alumni Services

March 2011

Dear Alumni,

Welcome to the Roadrunner Alumni Network and thanks for leading in the mission to help us provide services, support, information and opportunities to past, present, and future graduates of Mt. Abram High School through a powerful network of alumni. We hope you have enjoyed past alumni newsletters (still available here on line) and checking out our Mt. Abram website.

Chosen as one of ten "Great Maine Schools" by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mt. Abram is a school on the move - creating educational change and expanding opportunities for all students in the rural education setting. As an alumnus of Mt. Abram myself, it has been a privilege to work in this high school over the past 11 years and to watch students (many of them your children, nieces or nephews and younger family members) grow, succeed and find their way. Every student has a story we remember, and with every return visit, e-mail or phone contact, we are reminded of our ever-gratifying work and its rewards - that one child at a time, we continue to build a very special community.

As Director of Community Education for MSAD #58, I personally invite you to contact us with alumni news, ideas, questions, to talk about your student, to see what Mt. Abram has new to offer, or to take a walk down memory lane with a visit and a tour. Join us at a fall soccer game under the lights or at a game in the spring on our new state of the art basefall field. The banners still hang in the gymnasium, trophies and class photos still adorn the halls, the roadrunner is still our faithful mascot, and now, 40 years later, we know there is something really dynamic possible here and it involves YOU as our distinguished alumni.

We hope you will consider giving to your alma matter this year (we will provide a special giving envelope, please call us and we'll gladly send you one!) as we work together with the Maine Community Foundation to build a Scholarship Endowment Fund for past, present and future generations of Roadrunners. This part of the RAN mission is nearest and dearest to my heart. As alumni, we can give to these generations of students like never before.  Last June, the Roadrunner Alumni Network (Class of 1986) proudly awarded $500.00 to a deserving senior from the Class of 2010 who was  accepted at an institution of higher learning.  We hope to be able to continue in this tradition each spring with alumni support.  We are currently fundraising for an award to be given to a senior from the Class of 2011 at commencement exercises on June 10.

We have also received donations in the past from Mt. Abram alumni to our three other giving funds - our Educational Enrichment Fund, our Alumni Network Support Fund, and MTA's Where Most Needed Fund.  For these generous donations, we thank you - your support helps us to fulfill our mission as we serve past, present and future graduates.

We're glad you found us - spread the word and send us an e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or call (207-678-2701 ext. 4226) anytime so we can update your contact information in our alumni database. Click on the links to see our newsletters on-line, Mt. Abram postcard trivia answers or our alumni photo gallery (with new photos)! Send us your photos!  If you know of an event in the planning stages, give us a call and we will be glad to provide space on our site for your message. We also would be happy to assist you in your endeavors.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Kirsten Brown Burbank, MSEd., '86
